Frances studied Ceramics and Design at Cornwall college, prior to that she worked an apprenticeship with a Somerset ceramicist for seven years, all of this has led her to where she is now. She currently works from home in her studio. Her pots are handmade from slabs of white earthenware clay. She hand models the spoons and details such as handles, birds and fish. Each piece is carefully hand painted with underglazes, she also uses various glazes, oxides, stains, ceramic pencils and gold lustre to decorate her work. Often enhanced with subtle flowers, leaves and pencil lines, delicate lace is also impressed onto the surface to create beautiful textured marks. She introduced nails sticking out from the clay after finding old pieces of wood with the nails still in and wondering what they once were and where they came from. Her inspiration comes from her surroundings. The Cornish countryside plays a part in her work, although it may not be apparent when you first take a glance at her pieces, however when you look closely you can see the inspiration lies deep within the detail. Her process is natural and constantly evolving, when you look back on her work you can see that it changes with the fashion and her own personal taste as it develops.
