Jak Hickman is a textile artist who was brought up on a small holding in very rural Wales from the age of 4, and instantly felt at home surrounded by woodland, fields and streams.
Due to a severe speech impediment, in her early years, she immersed herself in the wonders of nature, observing the habits of the creatures surrounding her, sketching them and the beauty of the natural world.
She left for Shrewsbury at the age of 16 to complete a 2 year Art Foundation Course.
She returned to Mid Wales 20 years ago after a long spell in 'Magical' Ireland. Now she works in Shropshire with Shire Horses, working them on the land as they would have 100 years ago.
Jak discovered needlefelting 7 years ago finding an instant connection with the natural elements of wool together with the beautiful pieces of wood that she mounts them on.
