Josie resides in Shropshire. She was born in Lancashire and studied at Wigan College of Art and more recently Sheffield Hallam University gaining both a 2:1 (BA Hons) in Multimedia & Design and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. Josie was recently shortlisted by the Royal Academy at the Summer Exhibition, with her painting Autumn Sycamores. Her uniqueness lies in the capturing of natural light and the way this is displayed in her paintings as they interact with the landscape, alongside the unexpected perspective and sense of space, igniting her imagination.
“My work is largely inspired by landscape, particularly the Upper Clun Valley and the rural backdrop of the Welsh Hills which are close to my home. My aim is to capture a feeling of history, shrouded by the peacefulness and tranquillity of the local landscape.
My principal painting medium is mixed media, working primarily in watercolour, pen and ink. Working in situ initially from direct observation and drawings then overlaying with photographs to complete the piece, particularly for colour-referencing"
