Sally Harris grew up on a mixed farm in Herefordshire. Those formative years outside much of the time observing nature and the farm animals, interacting with some of them, made a lasting impression on her. As a child she started making animal sculptures, and found her own clay on the farm.
Following her Foundation Year at Hereford, she studied 3D Design with Ceramics Main, at Bath Academy of Art; PGCE at Lancaster, then taught in secondary and Further Education. She left to raise a family, and develop her ceramics, while renovating an old stone cottage in the South Shropshire AONB where she lives.
I love to watch birds and animals especially their body language. I try to capture their stances and expressions in my sculptures. We have had Indian Runner ducks for decades, hunting through the garden and paddock, inspiring sculptures.
